World renowned sand sculptor marries Italian bride

By Staff | Aug 19, 2011

John Edward Gowdy weds Laura Cimador

Groom, John Edward Gowdy, personally sculptured the above sand castle and surrounding sand beach area especially for his beautiful Italian bride, Laura Cimador, who traveled from Italy for their wedding.

Most of their guests traveled from Italy, Texas, and various northern states to partake in their celebration. On July 26, 2011, at 7:15 P.M., Phil Amandro, professional DJ, began the music and the pretty wedding attendants walked onto the beach, followed by the beautiful bride who was escorted by her two sons. The best man was the son of the groom. The bride entered through a decorated arch and walked the length of the sand sculptured aisle. There were two waist-high sand columns with flower arrangements professionally prepared by Patty’s Flowers Shop in Cape Coral.

Cameras were flashing as the bride made her way to the podium. Their wedding rings were placed inside a Tiffany heart-shaped container given to the bride and waiting for them with the officiant when they exchanged their vows. The groom has a home in Cape Coral and is a former New Jersey fireman.

After his retirement he now travels the world creating sand sculptures. Their seated guests were surrounded by beach goers who were attracted to the scene due to the sculpture and the fact there was a wedding in progress. Reception immediately followed in the ballroom of Holiday Inn where we all dined on fabulous Italian food prepared by the Holiday Inn chef.

Lee Flowers, owner of A Amore Weddings in Cape Coral, performed the ceremony, was also their wedding planner, and worked long distance with the bride assembling the vendors and going over the details to have everything ready for the bride when she arrived from Italy. Pete Fournier, professional photographer and videographer, was also heavily involved in capturing special moments of the wedding day.
