Lee School District new teacher orientation starts Monday

The School District of Lee County is ready to welcome hundreds of new teachers to the district on Monday, July 27. Over the first three days of orientation, new teachers will participate in live, virtual sessions focused on curriculum, classroom management, student engagement, parent/guardian communication, instructional technology and more. The event concludes with teachers participating in onboarding and team-building activities at their new schools.

The teachers starting with the district are a mix of recent college graduates, transfers from other districts and professionals who have changed careers to teach. Orientation gives these educators the foundational exposure and preparation needed to ensure each student has an opportunity to reach his or her highest potential in any educational setting.

Through a partnership with Suncoast Credit Union and the Foundation for Lee County Schools, the professional development team transitioned this annual event to a virtual platform, making a new vision of teacher onboarding possible. The Human Resources Division, Suncoast Credit Union, the Foundation for Lee County Public Schools, and the Teacher’s Association of Lee County stand ready to continue to support new teachers throughout the school year and throughout their careers in Lee County.

New Teacher Orientation opens at 8 a.m. on Monday with a drive-thru welcome ceremony at the main entrance to the Lee County Public Education Center on Colonial Boulevard.

Florida SouthWestern creates Wi-Fi parking lots for students in need

Florida SouthWestern State College has created Wi-Fi parking lots at each of its four locations. These Wi-Fi parking lots will assist FSW students who might not have access to the internet, spotty coverage, or less than ideal bandwidth. FSW student login credentials are required to access the Wi-Fi.

“It is our goal to ensure FSW students have access to the technology necessary to succeed at FSW,” said Jason Dudley, chief information officer/associate vice president of I.T. and eLearning. “The parking lots will allow FSW students to pull into a parking space or social distance outside and connect their devices using their FSW student login credentials to complete assignments, access online learning platforms, learning materials and more.”

Wi-Fi parking lots will be available in the following locations:

* FSW Charlotte Campus – Parking Lot 4

* FSW Collier Campus – Parking Lot 6

* FSW Lee Campus – Parking Lot 8

* FSW Hendry/Glades Curtis Center – All Parking Lots

Set up at all locations were scheduled to be completed July 13.
