Friday

FOOTBALL

Cape Coral 35, Immokalee 27: A big win Friday night set up an even bigger game next Friday. The Seahawks held off Immokalee in the final seconds to come within a game of their third consecutive District 5A-11 title.

Cape (6-2, 4-0) needs a win at Charlotte to clinch the crown.

Senior TJ Schley came up huge late with the game on the line against Immokalee. His 76-yard kickoff return in the fourth quarter gave the Seahawks their 35-27 lead. That was just the start. Schley then joined the defensive secondary, breaking up a would-be Indians touchdown. He followed that play with an interception at his own 5 that secured the victory.

Immokalee (6-2, 2-2) led 21-13 before the Seahawks got going.

Soldier Morse caught a Derek Hooker pass for 59 yards and a TD, adding a two-point conversion catch to tie the score at 21 late in the third quarter.

Cape’s ground game had a big night. Caleb Cobb only needed six carries to pile up 140 yards rushing -one of those an 80-yard TD run that put the Seahawks up 28-21. Kaden McMaree had 117 yards and a touchdown of his own.

Briggs Conway kicked field goals of 24 and 27 yards for the Seahawks.

Charlotte 47, North Fort Myers 0: The Tarpons (6-2, 3-1) prepared for the showdown with Cape Coral with a dominant performance against the Red Knights (2-6, 0-4).

Charlotte will be the home team for next week’s game.

Oasis 28, Ida Baker 16: The defense scored two of four Sharks (6-1) touchdowns. Nicholas Galeano grabbed up a fumble on Ida Baker’s first offensive play and ran it into the end zone. Sanjay Adlam, who had a pick-six, also caught an Ashton Alverio 40-yard TD pass.

Patryell Coleman ran for an Ida Baker (4-4) touchdown and Nick Velez caught a TD pass. The Bulldogs’ Dominic Pena surpassed the 1,000-yard rushing level for the season, the third player in Ida Baker history to achieve that mark.

Oasis extended its winning streak against its backyard rival to three games.

Island Coast 41, Bonita Springs 35: The Gators (3-5) snapped a two-game losing streak, dropping the Bull Sharks to 1-7.

Port Charlotte 62, Mariner 6: Jamarion Corbett caught a TD pass from Alijah Touchstone to account for the Tritons’ lone score.

The Tritons (3-5) were playing their third game in nine days, including a win against Oasis on Monday.

Bishop Verot 42, Fort Pierce Central 3: The Vikings didn’t need a full game to roll up 42 points. The rain-plagued game in Fort Pierce was called with eight minutes remaining on the clock.

Ayden Gonzalez caught a 38-yard Hudson Peak pass for one touchdown and ran eight yards for another. Gonzalez was also a part of some trickery, taking in a kickoff and lateraling it to Jyden German, who took it 70 yards for a TD.

Arrie Davis Jr. scored on offense and defense. Davis ran 8 yards for a score and pulled off a 45-yard pick-six.

Robi Duclona added a 1-yard TD as the Vikings improved to 5-2.

Mariner’s Dylan Macias-Buenrostro ran away with the boys race in Lee County Under the Lights at Terry Park. Macias-Buenrostro was the only runner to cross the finish line in less than 16 minutes (15.56.0).
