Sarah Greiner was honored by the ASUN on Monday, picking up her second conference Defensive Player of the Week award after recording an assist on the Eagles game-winning goal and helping the FGCU backline to their sixth shutout of the season in Sunday’s 2-0 win over Stetson at Pickering Field.

“Sarah has been phenomenal all season long” FGCU head coach Jim Blankenship said. “There isn’t anything that we can’t ask her to do, she does it all well, very deserving” he said of her honors this week.

Greiner got on the scoresheet right away on Sunday, serving a free kick into the box and onto the head of Kate Friday who buried it in the back of the net just five minutes into the contest to give FGCU a quick 1-0 lead against Stetson. She and the defense made sure that held, keeping a clean sheet for the next 85 minutes to lead the way in a 2-0 victory for the Eagles.

The assist was her second of the year, giving her eight points from her backline position. She continues to lead the Eagles in both shots and shots on goal on the season, with her 37 shots also leading the ASUN.

Greiner is one of six Eagles to win a weekly ASUN award this season and becomes the first multi-time recipient after also taking home the honors in week five.

Greiner and the Eagles make their annual trip to the River City this week where they will take on Jacksonville Thursday at 5 p.m. before a 1 p.m. matinee against North Florida on Sunday in a pair of contests with major ASUN postseason implications.
