SPRING FOOTBALL
Cape Coral 56, Fort Myers 21: Derek Hooker passed for five touchdowns, four to TJ Schley, as the Seahawks rolled to the victory. Kaden McMaree ran for two Cape touchdowns. Big plays were a big part of the night, with Hooker and Schley connecting for a 99-yard passing score and McManee running for a 90-yard TD. The first half ended in a 21-all tie due to frequent Cape penalties, but the Seahawks settled down and dominated after intermission.
North Fort Myers 28, Oasis 3: The Red Knights scored half their points in the third quarter, when both teams played their junior varsity squads. North won the three quarters of varsity play 14-3. “Lots of physical play on both sides,’ Sharks coach Brice Bearman said.
Aubrey Rogers 28, Island Coast 6: Dontavian Wilson ran for the Island Coast touchdown. Justin Midgett made his debut as Gators coach after stints as an assistant at Fort Myers and Charlotte. The Gators had 31 players on the spring roster, many playing both ways. The Island Coast offense is learning to run the wing-T offense long used by Fort Myers.
Bishop Verot 55, South Fort Myers 28: Leading just 14-12 in the second quarter, the Vikings pulled away for the victory. Ayden Gonzalez passed for a touchdown, ran for another and caught a TD pass. TJ Taylor had two touchdown passes, one to Derrick Fletcher and one to Gonzalez. Bishop Verot’s defense forced South into five turnovers, giving the offense good field position..
