Verot advances, North falls in softball regionals

Gulf Coast 8, North Fort Myers 0: The region’s top-seeded Red Knights (22-4) were upset by Gulf Coast (19-8) Tuesday. Audrie Florenzano had a hit and two stolen bases for the Red Knights. Kelley Conley had North Fort Myers’ other hit.
Braden River 4, Fort Myers 3: Braden River, the second seed, will be the home team for the region final. The Pirates (22-3) scored all four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to erase a 3-0 Green Wave (15-11) lead.

Semifinals
Bishop Verot 12, Clearwater Central Catholic 2 (5 innings): Bishop Verot is a game away from making the Class 2A FHSAA Final four. The Vikings (20-7) took advantage of 11 walks and four Marauders errors to score 12 times on five hits. Abby Goff cracked a two-run homer for Bishop Verot. Willa Pagnutti, Paige Bettermann and Emma Hall drove in a run each. Hall also scored three runs. Payton Breadmore allowed three hits and two unearned runs with nine strikeouts over five innings. Clearwater Central Catholic wound up 11-13.
Calvary Christian 10, Tampa Catholic 9: Calvary Christian (21-4) pulled even in the fifth, then walked off with a run in the bottom of the seventh. The Warriors will be home in Clearwater against Bishop Verot on Thursday. Tampa Catholic finished 10-9.
