FOOTBALL

Island Coast 40, Ida Baker 37: The Gators picked up their first win and the Crosstown Showdown trophy in a wild contest to end the season. Alijah Touchstone ran for an Island Coast score, Michael Clark raced 60 yards on a punt return, Curtis Walton Jr. had an 80-yard pick-six and Christian Henderson caught a pass from Terrance Taylor Jr. to give Island Coast a 26-17 halftime lead. Nickolas Korf set an Ida Baker (3-7) record with 329 yards rushing, scoring two touchdowns in the second half. Paytrell Coleman ran for two more Bulldogs TDs. Coleman’s second touchdown pushed Ida Baker up 37-26. From there Taylor rallied Island Coast (1-9) for the win with scoring passes to Henderson (41 yards) and Walton on an 85-yard bomb. Touchstone added a two-point conversion for the Gators (1-9). Korf ended his senior season at Ida Baker with 1,474 yards and 11 rushing touchdowns.

Cypress Lake 44, Mariner 34: Senior Owen O’Leary passed for three touchdowns, including a TD on the last pass of his Tritons career. Mariner found itself in a 16-0 hole early, battled back to within 22-20, only to see Cypress Lake (7-3) keep pulling away. Steven Carter, Jamarion Corbett and Jervontae Johnson were on the receiving end of O’Leary’s scoring passes. Eric David had a short run for a TD. Cooper Rivera kicked two field goals for the Tritons (3-7). 

Cape Coral 62, Gateway 0: There was no drama at Cape Coral High, where the Seahawks (9-1) crushed Gateway. Jermaine Skinner and Caleb Cobb piled up six rushing touchdowns for Cape Coral. TJ Schley and Carter Heisler were on the receiving end of TD passes from Derek Hooker. James Hall finished the rout with a rushing TD.

Charlotte 37, North Fort Myers 7: Charlotte (6-4) led 37-0 on its way to a probable playoff berth. The Tarpons intercepted three passes and blocked a punt. The Red Knights (4-6) scored on Adrian River’s 25-yard touchdown reception from Ryan Johnson. North’s Christian Weber finished the season with 979 yards rushing.

Oasis 20, Golden Gate 16: Down 16-13 in the last minute of play, Jackson Sabath connected with Kaleb Stengel for a game-winning 55-yard touchdown pass. Cameron Hill and Kevin Cisneros ran for scores as the Sharks finished 3-6, including wins in their last two games.

Miami Palmetto 20, Bishop Verot 10: Deshon Jenkins had a 21-yard touchdown and Coltobn Lamb kicked a 39-yard field goal. Despite a losing record (4-6) the Vikings could still earn a place in the Class 3A region playoffs after playing a brutal regular-season schedule.
