Oasis’ Forbes, Mariner’s Cruz earn firsts at Fort Myers Invitational cross country meet

CROSS COUNTRY

Fort Myers Invitational: Jazlyn Forbes of Oasis and Angel Cruz of Mariner were running and winning again after taking a week off.

Tritons runners Cruz and Dylan Maicas-Buenrostro finished 1-2 in the boys race. Cruz finished in 16.39.0, with Macias-Buenrostro coming in at 16:41.1.

Both skipped the Seahawks Invitational the week before, as did Forbes.

In the girls race, Forbes led a 1-2-4 Sharks domination of the front of the field. The trio led Oasis to first place in the team scoring.

Forbes finished in 18:14.7, with Madison Easton posting a 20.31.3 time and Lilliana Sipe a 20:36.1.

Mariner did not have enough runners to qualify for team scoring.

Cape Coral’s boys were third in the team standings, with North Fort Myers eighth, Bishop Verot 10th, Oasis 11th and Ida Baker 20th. Island Coast did not have a team score.

Cape was led by Ruben Viera De Lemos in 11th place. Brody Hilt of North was 16th, Bishop Verot’s Christian Ginart 18th and the Seahawks’ Joshua Warren 25th.

For the Oasis girls, Madison Boyko (21:07.6) was 22th and Erin Vezzola 64th to help give the Sharks a winning team score of 73 points. All Oasis girls except Forbes had lower scores than their finish since runners without a full team do not get place points.

The scoring had Forbes, Easton and Sipe 1-2-3.

The Bishop Verot girls were seventh on Saturday, North Fort Myers eighth, Cape Coral 18th and Ida Baker 19th. Island Coast did not have a team score.

Aurelia Sciandra of North was ninth, Caroline Muddell of Bishop Verot came in 19th, Briana Watson of Island Coast finished 20th and Lillian Lampitt of Verot was 23rd.
