FOOTBALL
Cape Coral 60, Island Coast 6: A day after a letter went out announcing head coach Tyler Murphy’s resignation, the Seahawks players paid tribute to Murphy as they came onto the field. During the game itself, Cape (4-0) was extremely efficient with the football. Derek Hooker didn’t throw the ball much, but was successful when he did. Hooker (6-of-7, 74 yards) hit two touchdown passes. Caleb Cobb rushed eight times for 123 yards and two touchdowns. Vincent Miranda had two touchdowns on just two touches. Jayden Reyes intercepted a pass and took it to the house, one of two pickos for Reyes in the game Jermaine Skinner and Jayden Boyd also scored for Cape Coral. Island Coast (0-4) scored on a 10-yard Terrance Taylor run in the fourth quarter. Interim Seahawks coach Jaylen Watkins got the win in his first game at the helm.
Lehigh 19, North Fort Myers 10: This was the one that got away for the Red Knights (1-3). Given a first down on the Lightning 2 on a turnover with the score 12-10 in the fourth quarter, North came away with nothing, due to a turnover of its own. Lehigh would go on to score a clinching touchdown later in the quarter. The Red Knights’ scoring came in the first half, with Charles Lombardo catching a 23-yard TD pass from Caedon Conn and Meyer Erickson making a 32-yard field goal. Christian Weber was North’s workhorse on offense, carrying the ball 27 times for 124 yards.
Riverdale 42 Mariner 3: Cooper Rivera’s 5-yard field goal in the first quarter accounted for the Tritons’ points. Mariner’s passing game was thwarted by the rainy field conditions and pressure from the Riverdale defense. Penalties also took their toll, as Rivera’s kick was all Mariner got out of three trips inside the Raiders’ 20-yard line.
St. John Neumann 40, Oasis 2: On a rough night for Oasis, about the only consolation for the Sharks (1-3) was that they ended 3-1 Neumann’s streak of 11-plus quarters of holding opponents scoreless with a safety in the fourth quarter.
VOLLEYBALL
Canterbury 3, North Fort Myers 0: The Cougars (3-5) swept the Red Knights (5-4) by scores of 25-14, 25-16, 26-24.
