CROSS COUNTRY
DDD Sommer Invitational
Mariner’s Angel Cruz and Dylan Macias-Buenrostro finished 1-2 in the boys race, while Jazlyn Forbes won the girls race, leading Oasis to the team championship.
Cruz, a senior, crossed the line in 16.17.1, with sophomore Macias-Buenrostro’s 16.20.9 was 38 seconds ahead of the third-place finisher.
With less than a full squad of runners, the Tritons did not place as a team. Naples and Fort Myers took the top two team spots.
The Oasis boys were ninth, led by Adrian Sosa in 23rd place. Ida Baker was 14th.
Meanwhile, Forbes completely dominated the girls field, finishing at 18:06.2, more than a minute faster than Community School of Naples’ Sienna Audrey.
The DDD Sommer Invitational course at Estero Community Park is considered one of Florida’s toughest.
Forbes has posted the second-fastest time in Florida (17:55.30) this cross country season.
That time was at the Dunbar Tiger Jamboree earlier this month, when she broke the course record.
The Sharks’ Madison Easton (21:14.4) and Lilliana Sipe (21:18.7) were fifth and sixth overall, and Madison Boyko finished 18th.
Aubrey Rogers was second in the girls team standings, three points back of Oasis. Ida Baker came in 14th.
