FOOTBALL

Mariner 38, Bonita Springs 0: Tritons quarterback Owen O’Leary had a monster night through the air, completing 12 of 19 passes for 293 yards and five touchdowns. Any hangover from last-weeks last-second loss to Fort Myers was wiped out as Mariner dominated on both sides of the ball. The Tritons (1-1) wasted no time, going 75 yards as Steven Carter took an O’Leary pass to the house on the first play from scrimmage. Carter’s second TD reception was from 44 yards as he finished the night with four catches for 166 yards. Colin Raftery (1 catch, 8 yards), Jamarion Corbett (four total receptions, 70 yards) and Adrian Branch-Lopez (1 catch, 3 yards) were also on the receiving end of O’Leary scoring passes. Jaxton Moore ran for 49 yards and O’Leary added 47 to pace the ground game. Cooper Rivera added a 37-yard field goal.

Golden Gate 29, Island Coast 6: Golden Gate’s defense and special teams made the difference as the Gators fell to 0-2. The Titans’ kickoff squad recovered three onside kicks and the punt team pinned Island Coast on its own 1. Golden Gate also scored on a safety.

Oasis at Glades Central, ppd: Weather conditions in Belle Glade pushed the Oasis-Glades Central game to 4 p.m. Saturday, according to Sharks coach Brice Bearman.

Bishop Verot 44, True North Classical 34: With their lead down to 29-27 in the fourth quarter, the Vikings (1-1) scored two touchdowns in nine seconds of scoreboard clock time. The key play of the game occurred right after Mcrae Thompson (143 yards rushing) had scored on a 7-yard run midway through the fourth period. A bad snap led to a bad True North pass that Robi Duclona turned into a pick-six Verot touchdown. With Thompson’s two-point conversion, the score was 44-27. Austan Cristiaan hit two 69-yard TD passes in the first half, one each to Gavin Wittner and Ayden Gonazalez. Cristiaan and Gonzalez later teamed up on a trick play, with Gonzalez taking a lateral from his quarterback and passing 60 yards to Bryce Schell for a Verot touchdown. Gonzalez (166 yards receiving) also hit Derek Fletcher on a two-point conversion. True North running back Cecil Smith scored three second-half TDs to keep the game close.
