Verot’s Davis headed to FHSAA Class 1A state weightlifting meet

At Frostproof Middle/Senior High School

Bishop Verot’s Justin Davis will be going to the FHSAA Class 1A state weightlifting meet after his performance at the Region 1A-4 competition.

Davis won the 169-pound weight class in Olympic lifting, and also was fourth in the Traditional lift.

The Region 2A-4 meet, including the West Zone high schools, is Saturday at East Lee County out in Lehigh Acres.

The FHSAA championships will be April 19-20 in Lakeland.

Cape Coral 14, Gateway 4: Make it two wins in a row for the Seahawks (2-14), who were able to score 14 runs on only seven hits thanks to eight Eagles errors.

Port Charlotte 3, Island Coast 2 (8 innings): Jordi Guerrero and Davin Hickman drove in the Gators’ (11-7) runs.

IMG Academy Gold 5, North Fort Myers: Jakob Wagner doubled in the a for the Red Knights (5-1). Matthew Blasena had a triple.

SOFTBALL

Cape Coral 12, Gateway 2 (6 innings): Allie Buice paced the Seahawks (7-8), going 3-for-4 with a triple, three RBI and two runs scored. Isabel Watts had two hits including a homer, driving in two runs. Mya Ramirez had two RBI. Additionally, Abigail Brannan was 3-for-4 with two doubles. Emma Brannan struck out 12 in six innings, with only one of the runs against her being earned.

Bishop Verot 15, Bonita Springs 4 (6 innings): Melanie Moreno had a big game for the Vikings (11-1), going 2-for-4 with a homer, three RBI and three runs scored. Crimson Lawrence struck out nine batters.

BEACH VOLLEYBALL

Charlotte 3, Bishop Verot 2: The Vikings’ seven-match winning streak was snapped, leaving them 12-2 on the season.

FLAG FOOTBALL

Ida Baker 20, Cypress Lake 12: The Bulldogs are unbeaten (6-0) with one game to go in the regular season. Eyvette Osme ran for 131 yards and two touchdowns against Cypress Lake, and made an interception on defense. Reagan Zumar had six quarterback sacks. Taylor Rauh caught a TD pass, extending her scoring streak to five games. Quarterback Lilliana Porcelli passed for two touchdowns.

Gateway 12, Cape Coral 6: Cape slipped to 1-5 on the season.

BOYS TENNIS

Mariner 4, Oasis 3: Michael Abreu and Tyler Feichthaler won their singles matches and teamed up for a doubles victory for the Sharks.

GIRLS TENNIS

Oasis 5, Mariner 2: The Sharks (11-0) swept the singles with wins by Sophia Abreu, Sophia Pollard, Cecilia Menendez, Suzanne Greco and Emily Feichthaler.
