Weightlifting

Justin Davis of Bishop Verot was named top lifter in the Olympic portion of the District 1A-13 tournament at St. Stephen’s Episcopal in Bradenton.

Davis won the 169-pound weight class with a total of 445 pounds.

Top lifter is determined by a pair of formulas which basically compare the amount lifted to the individual’s own weight.

Davis finished second at 169 pounds in the Traditional lift.

Jack Beniatis of the Vikings was district Olympic champ in the Unlimited class, with teammate Denis Forte fourth.

Beniatis was second in Traditional.

Other Vikings who placed in Olympic were Noah Keating (fourth at 129 pounds) and Henry Phillips (third at 238 pounds). Phillips was also third in Traditional. Forte was third in Traditional.

The Region 1A-4 tournament is Thursday in Frostproof.

North Fort Myers 15, Port Charlotte 0 (4 innings): The Red Knights (11-1) rebounded from their first loss with a dominant performance. Kaliyah Williams was 3-for-3 at the plate, driving in three North runs. Abigail Hynes (3-for-4) scored twice and knocked in two runs. Azlynn Gomes (2-for-4) had two RBI and two runs scored. Bella Miceli also had two RBI.
