TRACK AND FIELD

Bishop Verot’s Wyatt Whalen won the state Class 2A shot put title Thursday at the FHSAA State Championships in Jacksonville.

Whalen’s 16.48m put gave him the title over second-place Dylan Freet of Tocoi Creek (16.32m). Only one other competitor had a put better than 16 meters.

The Vikings’ Grayson Tubbs came in third in the 800, Logan Schwartz fourth in javelin, and Ryan Peterson fifth in the discus.

In the team standings, Bishop Verot was seventh overall in a field of 55 teams.

Both Bishop Verot’s girls’ and boys’ 3200 meter relay teams placed fourth.

Mackenzie De Lisle was fourth in the girls’ 3200 meters.

The Vikings girls finished 16th overall out of 57 schools.
