Coleman named athletic director at Bishop Verot High School

Bishop Verot Catholic High School this week announced and welcomed home Greg Coleman as the director of athletics, as former AD, Jason Baumgardner transitions into a new role.

Coleman is a 1998 graduate of Verot and began his coaching career as an assistant boys basketball and softball coach, helping the Vikings to regional final appearances in basketball and 2004 state runner-up in softball.

After his early coaching years at Verot, Coleman went on to be a successful and well-respected boys basketball coach within the Lee County School District at Ida Baker, Island Coast and most recently Lehigh Senior. After 13 years as an economics teacher, Coleman transitioned into Lehigh’s athletic director role in 2019.

Baumgardner will step into a newly developed role as director of strategic initiatives for Bishop Verot. He said he is eager to get started in this position to have more of a prominent role in the overall Verot community. “I’m looking forward to working with our leadership team to enhance all aspects of our Catholic identity, strong culture and rich traditions.”

Coleman is a 2005 graduate of FGCU and resides in Fort Myers with his wife Stefanie and two children, Alexa and Brayden.

Bishop Verot Catholic High School is a co-educational institution in the Diocese of Venice, Florida. It is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and a member of the National Catholic Education Association. Founded in 1962, Bishop Verot has earned a reputation for excellence through its commitment to religious mission, academic achievement and service to the community.
