Seahawks hang on to defeat Bulldogs 57-53
Cape Coral hung on at the end, converting nine free throws down the stretch to preserve a 57-53 victory Tuesday night against city rival Ida Baker.
Luis Calderon led the Seahawks with 13 points with C.J. Lewis adding 10 points. The Seahawks trailed by seven points in the third quarter, but rallied to take a one-point lead into the fourth quarter before sealing the win at the free throw line.
Corey Friar led the Bulldogs with 23 points, backed by Devin Hanley’s 15 points and Gabe Casey’s 11 points. The Bulldogs (6-9) visit North Fort Myers on Friday.
The Seahawks are at Cypress Lake on Thursday before visiting another city rival, Island Coast, on Friday.
Mariner 66, Lely 43: Unbeaten Mariner extended its winning streak to 16 straight games Tuesday night with a District 5A-12 victory at Lely.
Isaiah Darrett led the Tritons with a career-high 23 points. The Tritons also got 12 points apiece from Sean Kostyk and Amari Haynes. Haynes also grabbed eight rebounds.
The Tritons used a 12-0 run to start the third quarter to put the Trojans away. The Tritons (16-0) host Dunbar on Friday.
Port Charlotte 70, Island Coast 51: Island Coast scored just three points in the first quarter to trail 24-3 and never recovered Tuesday night against District 6A-10 rival Port Charlotte.
Sam Merchant led the Gators with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Craig Sirmons chipped in with seven points and 10 rebounds. The Gators (8-10) host Cape Coral on Friday.
C.S. Naples 74, Bishop Verot 27: C.S. Naples cruised past Bishop Verot Tuesday night, barely breaking a sweat.
Trent Buttrick led the Celtics with 23 points with Justin Trunfio contributing 20. No Verot player scored more than six points.
The Vikings (3-10) host East Lee County on Wednesday.

Cape Coral 7, Cypress Lake 0: Cape Coral locked up the No. 1 seed for the District 3A-13 tournament with a victory over Cypress Lake Tuesday night.
Jonathan Jimenez and Daniel Medina led the Seahawks with two goals apiece. Gianni Cognata, Kevin Retana and Austin Sweesy also scored goals. Camilo Avendano and Jose Parra were credited with two assists apiece with others contributed by Christopher Iturbe, Cognata and Retana.
Goalkeepers Kyal Weber (six saves) and Steven Patino (3 saves) preserved the shutout for the Seahawks (15-1, 7-0 district), who host Ida Baker on Friday.
Mariner 8, South Fort Myers 0: Erick Rivera’s hat trick was enough Tuesday night in Mariner’s shutout victory at South Fort Myers.
Joey Lane tacked on two goals for the Tritons while Juan Guevara, Horatio Pla and Mason Eicher each added one goal. Rivera also assisted on two teammates’ goals.
The Tritons (9-6-3) host Lakewood Ranch on Wednesday.
Ida Baker 4, Oasis 1: Pedro Costa’s two goals topped Ida Baker scoring Tuesday night in a victory over Oasis.
Edwin Alvarez and Chazz Lally added single goals with Carter Burchell recording two assists and Noah Circio one. Goalkeeper Alex Buntrock was credited with five saves.
The Bulldogs (8-9-2) play at Cape Coral on Friday.

Ida Baker 5, C.S. Naples 0: Ida Baker rode five goals scored by Haley Rounsifer to victory Tuesday night at C.S. Naples.
Paxton Guerin assisted on four of Rounsifer’s goals while Marcella Montoya assisted on the other. Goalkeeper Acelya Aydogmous made eight saves to preserve the shutout.
The Bulldogs (16-5-1) host Cape Coral Friday night in the final regular season match.
Mariner 3, South Fort Myers 0: Taylor Yount scored two goals and Amanda Miller tacked on another, all coming in the second half of Mariner’s shutout win over South Fort Myers Tuesday night.
Keepers Sam Wolfe and Alexis Restrepo combined for seven saves to preserve the shutout for the Tritons (14-2-3), who visit Lehigh on Thursday.
Oasis 4, Cape Coral 1: Oasis erupted for three second-half goals Tuesday night to upend Cape Coral.
Abby Kohlmeier’s goal got the Seahawks even with the Sharks before halftime. Goalkeeper Blaire Dupuy was credited with seven saves for the Seahawks (7-8-2), who host Lemon Bay Wednesday.
