DiLallo shoots par, second overall at Sebring
The third major tournament in recent weeks has given Ida Baker a dose of confidence as the golf season winds down toward district and postseason play.
The Bulldogs placed 10th in the Crutchfield Hawkins Tournament Monday in Sebring, but Alec DiLallo birdied the final hole to shoot par-72 and take second place individually behind champion Luke Farmer (70) of Estero.
Kings Academy won the team title with a score of 313, followed by Gainesville at 314, Gainesville Buchholz and West Orange at 316, and Estero fifth at 319.
“It was a good, strong field,” said Bulldogs coach Scott Conforte. “We had a better effort than we did in the Bishop Verot Invitational last week.”
T.J. Clapp shot 87 to back DiLallo’s effort, with Ben Hunt carding 89 and David Trawick contributed 91 toward the Bulldogs’ total of 339, placing them 10th in the team standings.
“We were without our No. 2 player, who was sick,” said Conforte. “I am pleased with the hard work. Our guys grinded it out and I’m thrilled for Alec. This was a big win for him and I think he is peaking at the right time for districts.”
The Bulldogs host South Fort Myers Tuesday at Palmetto Pine.
Volleyball
Riverdale 3, Cape Coral 0: A trip to Riverdale proved disappointing for Cape Coral, which lost 25-10, 25-16, 25-8 on Monday.
Heather Souchik led the Seahawks with two aces, two blocks and seven digs while Deidre Ceremony delivered four kills. Danielle Smith handed out four assists.
The Seahawks (10-6) host Cypress Lake on Thursday.
Island Coast 3, Lehigh 0: Multiple players contributed to Island Coast’s 25-14, 25-11, 25-17 victory Monday night.
Megan Smith led with 11 kills and four service aces, Jordan Gentry added five kills, Julia Rose was credited with 12 assists, five aces and five digs, and Mikaela Monahan added four aces for the Gators, who visit North Fort Myers on Thursday.
