Knights conquer Bobcats

2 min read

NORTH PORT – Sascha Hyer hasn’t enjoyed an abundance of victories in his two-plus years as head football coach at North Port High, but entered Friday night perfect on Homecoming.

Bobcats fans, however, were denied a three-game streak thanks to a 28-6 loss to North Fort Myers.

“They did a great job. They moved the ball real well,” Hyer said. “They pounded us and we knew they would. They’re like Sarasota and Riverview with the size they have up front.”

North Fort Myers (3-4) routinely picked up first downs on third-and-short running behind 6-foot-6, 320-pound Corbin Jackimowicz.

It wasn’t like the Knights ran wild. They churned out 144 yards on 37 carries with four touchdowns. While North had five plays of 22 or more yards in the passing game, three came in the second half with the Bobcats (1-6) already trailing 21-6.

“A win ugly is better than a loss ugly,” North coach Barry Goettemoeller said. “On the road in another county; I’m proud of our guys.”

The Knights certainly gave North Port plenty of second chances with 11 penalties for 90 yards, but it didn’t make much of a difference, even when North Port turned to backup quarterback Drake Sunderland.

North visits Mariner (0-6) next Friday.
