It was the last high school football game for most of the Cape players Wednesday night in the John Carrigan Rotary South Classic at Sam Sirianni Field at Fort Myers high.

Fortunately, all 16 players from Cape Coral high schools went out on a winning note as the North squad beat the South 22-15.

“I’m pretty pumped and I have very hard butterflies,” said Cape High senior Cameron Hall before kickoff.

“It feels great,” said Mariner senior Renato Proia. “It feels great just to come out here and have fun with the boys after almost a month of not playing.”

Led by Hall and Brian Justice on defense, the North stars opened a 22-0 lead on the South before South made it close with two touchdowns in the final five minutes of the game.

Hall had one of his best performances of the year with an interception on defense and two catches for 53 yards on offense.

Justice also was a force at defensive end, notching 1 1/2 sacks and putting constant pressure on the South quarterbacks.

Ida Baker senior runningback Marvin Riedewald carried much of the load with 15 carries for 51 yards.

The win sends all the seniors home with one last positive memory of their high school football careers.

“I’m gonna miss it,” said Riedewald.

The win is the second in a row for the North and third win in the last five all-star games. The South leads the series, which began in 1989, 15-4-1 overall.

Tommy Bohanon of North Fort Myers was named the MVP for the North squad. He scored two touchdowns, one rushing and one passing.

Antavian Edison of Dunbar was named MVP for the South squad. He had one of the South’s touchdowns while Miguel Rodriguez, also of Dunbar, scored the other.
