Athletes of the Week | March 29
Isaac Lopez
Junior
Baseball
Island Coast Gators
Lopez had a huge day at the plate as part of a 12-1 win for the Gators over Lake Placid, going 3-for-5 with 5 RBI. The junior is batting .333 on the year and leads the team in on-base percentage and runs batted in.
“I was feeling confident at the plate that night and picking up the ball out of the pitcher’s hand well, especially the breaking ball, which I collected two hits on during the game after hitting one of the furthest balls of my career off a fastball that went just foul. I’m thankful my teammates were able to reach base to give me a chance to drive in runs. I’ve attempted to stay short on my swing this year, which has allowed me to make contact earlier in counts instead of getting behind.”

Liliana Porcelli
Sophomore
Flag Football
Ida Baker Bulldogs
Porcelli was 10-of-15 through the air for 110 yards and two touchdowns as the Bulldogs won their fourth game in a row in a victory over Island Coast in the inaugural season of girls flag football.
“I was nervous in the beginning, but I had my team behind me, and they pump me up to be the best. It has been really fun playing flag football and a great experience. My passing prowess came from me and my dad going out and just throwing the ball in the yard.”
