Melissa Blaine

Senior

Swimming

Cape Coral Seahawks

Blaine finished second in the 200 individual medley in the FHSAA Class 3A State Championships in Ocala, and brought home a fifth-place finish in the 500-freestyle. The senior also contributed to the Seahawks’ 200 medley relay team that came in eighth; and a seventh place in the 400-freestyle relay.

“I am so proud of my team for their hard work and efforts during the swim season and at states this year. My four years representing the Seahawks have been full of fun times even through the challenging moments last year that deterred our preparation for states. As my high school swim career ends, I look forward to swimming at Ohio University. I am proud to have represented Cape High and will always remember my time with the Seahawks.”

Deshon Jenkins

Sophomore

Football

Bishop Verot Vikings

Jenkins rushed 18 times for 257 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Vikings’ rout of Mulberry in the opening-round of the playoffs. His rushing total was the most in a Vikings’ game since 1994.

“I first touched the ball and ran for about 15 yards and we couldn’t get anything going in the passing game. Right then and there I knew it was my time to go and take over the game from there. Throughout the rest of the season, we plan on working hard, getting closer as a family, and building a stronger brotherhood to be ready for the ultimate prize at the end of the season and playing for a state title.”
