Ida Baker Bulldogs

The Bulldogs’ offensive leader in nearly every category this year helped her team pick up three wins last week with great performances at the plate. Nieves went 7-for-10, collecting six RBI, blasting a home run, and scoring six runs.

“Those at bats mark some of my final moments playing at the high school level. I have been making an effort to slow down and enjoy the moments I have left. The coaching staff at Ida Baker chooses to challenge its players every day. I thrive in this environment. Coach Castellano truly helps embrace the competitiveness that I was raised with. The practices have pushed me to improve my craft.”

Bishop Verot Vikings

The junior finished first in three different events at the District 2A-12 finals last week. Little IV was tops in the triple jump, 110-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles. He also was part of the winning 4×400-meter relay team for the district champion Vikings.

“It feels great to take home three district wins. I worked for this all season. I will continue to prepare for the next stage of the postseason by training the same way I have been, with extra recovery. But this time, I will watch over my other races and correct my mistakes in time for regionals.”
