Athletes of the Week 9-30-22
Jazlyn Forbes
Cross Country
Freshman, Oasis High
Forbes finished second among 78 runners and ran a personal best 20:02.50 in the 5,000 meters at the 33rd Triton Invitational, where Oasis finished first. The freshman also finished second at the North Port Invitational the week prior — another first-place finish for the Sharks.
“I was feeling nervous because it was a new course to me and I didn’t want to let my team down. When I got running, I became relaxed. I put positive thoughts in my head. During the year, I’m hoping to run a 19-minute time.”
Dustin Paladino
Football
Senior, Island Coast
The running back scored the game-winning touchdown from 5 yards out with just 22 seconds left to propel the Gators to a 20-17 come from behind win over East Lee County. Paladino totaled 101 yards on the ground via 19 carries.
“I knew it was time to go win the game, so I went in there, and the line helped me out and pushed me in the end zone and we came out with a big win. I see the hole, and I hit it.”
