‘Principled Republicans’

To the editor:

In response to a recent Guest Commentary:

Perhaps the writer, who states he worked in the administrations of both President Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush, should explain what a “principled Republican” is.

I’m an American conservative. I voted for Ronald Reagan, twice. George H. W. Bush, twice, and Donald J. Trump, three times. Did I agree with everything they did in office? No. Did I agree they were the best at the time? Absolutely.

The writer complains about Gubernatorial candidate Byron Donalds because he supports President Trump’s policies. He also complains Donalds supports President Trump’s military actions.

Perhaps he forgets about President Reagan’s support for the Contras, the Lebanon deployment (241 marines killed), involvement in the Persian Gulf, etc…

He must have also forgotten about President Bush and the Gulf War. I’ll leave that alone.

But Trump apparently is a war monger. (Trump also stopped eight “wars” around the globe.)

As for President Trump’s policies, seems to me he’s done what a vast majority of Americans asked him to do, myself included.  If we wanted another typical “principled Republican,” we would have elected Jeb Bush, or Nikki Haley. But we didn’t.

We wanted someone that a lot of “principled Republicans” hated. Someone who would be with the people, not the swamp. Not the military industrial complex, not the “rino’s” that continuously vote against what the people want to pad their own bank accounts. Those were OUR principles.

So, it seems the writer’s complaints about Byron Donalds aren’t about Byron Donalds, they’re about President Trump.

It’s called TDS. There’s a lot of that going around.

We “American conservatives”, will judge each candidate on their own merits. We have the free minds to do that.  And our own “principles.”

And Byron Donalds will be no different.
