Hard ’No’ on Amendment 3
To the editor:
Matt Caldwell had some very large shoes to fill that belonged to his predecessor Ken Wilkinson.
Wilkinson was internationally recognized in CAMA, computer assisted mass appraisal, as well as refinements in real property appraisal methodology.
Matt has come a long way from his MAI designation to IAAO “assessing officer.”
I expect Ken would have also added in a guest editorial, that there is no lost revenue to local governments. Local governments will simply create fees out of thin air. The current budget discussions in the Cape are wild enough. Can you imagine this bunch dreaming up new fees and deciding how much they will be?
Property taxation methodology is consistent and provides a predictable outcome either by caps when value is up or recapture when it is down(and boy does it go up and down). Good for government and good for the rate payer because you can budget based on it.
Amendment 3 FAQ, is put together by the assessing officers of the state. It is accurate information and I hope voters will give it consideration.
There is only one wallet. I don’t want to create more unpredictable ways for local governments to get into it. I’m a hard NO on 3.
