Vote Jordan, school board, District 4
To the editor:
I had a phone interview with Deb Jordan, a candidate for School Board District 4 in the upcoming Nov. 3 General Election.
After years serving in the Lee County School District, I’ve learned one thing for certain: good decisions, start with listening, asking hard questions and remember who we work for our students, families, teachers and community.
I’ve had the opportunity to serve as chair and vice chair, visit schools across our district, sit in classrooms, talk with teachers and staff, and see first hand what is working and where we need to do better.
I’ve seen the difference that investing in our schools can make-from school expansions, rebuilding aging facilities to expand Career and Technical Education opportunities and strengthening partnerships that support students and families.
I’ve learned that not every recommendation deserves an automatic “yes.” When taxpayer dollars are involved, the School Board has a responsibility to ask questions , examine the numbers and make sure the money is being spent where it matters most, in our classrooms and on the people who serves our children every day,
Experience has taught me that the government is not about having all the answers. It’s about being willing to listen, do the homework, ask hard questions and sometimes stand alone when you believe it is the right thing to do. That is the experience and perspective I will continue to bring to the School Board.
