To the editor:

With Sept. 11 upon us, we are reminded of that crucial turning point in our country’s history.

This month commemorates the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks that occurred on Sept.11, 2001, a day that changed and altered America and transformed the lives of countless firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency medical personnel, military members, and the families who supported them along with thousands of hard-working people.

For many, the memories remain fresh.

We recall the bravery of those who rushed toward peril while others fled. We honor the 343 members of the FDNY, the 71 law enforcement officers who sacrificed their lives during the rescue efforts, the military and civilian personnel at the Pentagon, the passengers and crews aboard American Airlines Flight 11, United Airlines Flight 175, American Airlines Flight 77, and United Airlines Flight 93, as well as the thousands of innocent men, women, and children who lost their lives that day.

Twenty-five years later, the legacy of sacrifice endures. Numerous first responders and individuals who were present at or near the sites continue to confront cancers, respiratory ailments, post-traumatic stress, and other long-term health issues directly linked to the attacks.

On that day, lives were shattered and altered; you may try to put things in order and move forward However, the memory of the United States being attacked by people intent on destroying our way of life will always linger, and we must stay vigilant to prevent such an occurrence from happening again and also remember the people that lost their lives that day.
