Equal rights for Islamic women in the USA
To the editor:
Islamic women who are U.S .citizens, share equal legal rights with all other U.S. citizens. However, social and cultural issues often block those rights, so in effect these women do not share the same rights as other U.S. citizens. This is wrong and needs to be reversed.
Fear of harm and social shaming play a part in creating this inequality and it needs to stop. The U.S. Constitution is the Law of the Land, and it governs all that transpires in the USA. The First Amendment guarantees religious freedom but not at the expense of other freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution or as stated in the Declaration of Independence.
If all Islamic women in the USA do not share the same rights and freedoms as all other American women then they do not belong in the United States of America. Where are the Democrats on this issue? In Dearborn, Michigan, Sharia Law is allowed to heavily influence what occurs and the freedoms people enjoy. Thus, Democrats, because they are largely in control of government in Michigan, are enabling a climate of division and discrimination. This needs to stop. The U.S. Constitution is the supreme Law of the Land. It cannot be subverted or ignored.
