Planned Parenthood is a healthcare provider
To the editor:
Federal funding for medicaid services was suspended July 4, 2025 for one year. The order expired July 4, 2026.
Many political advertisements stated that Planned Parenthood performs only abortions . This is not the truth.
The Hyde Amendment passed in the 1970s stated that Medicaid already doesn’t cover abortion and regular people do not know this fact.
Do you know what Planned Parenthood in Fort Myers does?
I called the Planned Parenthood office and I spoke to a woman that told me so much information.
She told me the list of what Planned Parenthood does is on the web page and that so many things can be treated at Planned Parenthood. The staff is accredited license professionals that are licensed, non judgmental, kind and the office tries to make booking easier for appointments. Locally, the regional headquarters in Tampa holds an A+ rating in the Better Business Bureau Business Profile.
Healthcare includes: STD and HIV services (infection, testing and treatment and pre exposure and PEP medications to prevent HIV), birth control, family planning (as pregnancy timing, professional insertion and removal of IUDs),prescriptions, fertility education, cancer screening with direct imaging referrals and diagnostic medical maternity management. Vasectomies are not done at the Fort Myers but in the Jacksonville location.
Now medicaid can reimburse for the care of the patients.
I support good health for Lee County and its citizens. I support Planned Parenthood, yearly wellness visits and on behalf of their patients on medicaid I implore you to become healthy as possible and live a good life in Lee county.
Political attacks will continue but look for political candidates that support good health for the citizens in Lee county.
