Beware fake political groups

To the editor:

These generally include three deceptive operations that masquerade as the GOP or Democratic Party:

1. Scam PACs: Fraudulent Political Action Committees use patriotic-sounding names to solicit donations. They often manipulate donors with urgent messages, pocketing most funds for administrative costs rather than supporting candidates. The FEC, GOP, and DNC warn about these scams.

2. Deceptive Mailers & Fake Voter Guides: These glossy mailers mimic official voter guides but promote special interest candidates. They exploit mail-in voting trends to confuse voters. Always double-check with your local Party office.

3. Deceptive Dark Money Groups: Partisan consultants create organizations to draw in your donations, influence elections, and spread disinformation.

How to Protect Yourself: Contact your local Democratic Party: 239-939-2866.

– Ensure funds go to official Party or candidate sites, not unknown committees.

– Look for required disclaimers on campaign materials.

– Verify endorsements on official party websites.
