Thank you, Breeze staff
To the editor:
Congratulations to the Breeze Newspapers for its nine awards from the Florida Press Association! As a 37-year resident and former councilman, I can attest that “If it’s news in Cape Coral or the barrier islands” The Breeze papers are your best source to get the full story. Publisher Ray Eckenrode, executive editor Valarie Harring, their journalist reporters and entire staff do a commendable job professionally covering our local area with fact-based reporting. Just look at their letters to the editor section, nearly always a 50/50 split on opinions from readers on the right and the left side of the political spectrum.
The best reason to subscribe and support our “hometown” paper comes at election time. Their in-depth coverage of first-person responses from every candidate makes our job as informed voters much easier. You can hear from the candidates directly about their responses to vitally important local issues. I have valued my subscription for nearly four decades now. It is especially important if you want to know who you are voting for and what they represent. This is a much better option than visiting the individual candidate’s websites. I think the voters would appreciate the same coverage for judges we are expected to vet before approving with little to no source of background knowledge. Give us some facts on their rulings in “high profile” local cases.
To Ray, Val and your entire staff; thank you for a job well done reporting local issues for our residents! We wish you many more years of journalism excellence in your mission to keep our citizens informed on local issues.
