ADA accommodations
To the editor:
I want thank The Breeze for its editorial “Accommodation that’s reasonable,” Cape Council moves input back to start of meeting agenda. Now that citizens input is back at the beginning of the meetings for ADA and those with disabilities as well the citizens of Cape Coral, we can attend with dignity. We can always hang on to the idea that Council is listening to us before they discuss and vote on the issues.
I want to thank the city attorney, for having the just interpretation of the ADA law of 1993 firmly in hand.
I want to thank the six members of the City Council who voted yes. The seventh council member did not vote for the resolution because of not fully addressing the time for the ADA and those with disabilities’ presentations. It is addressed. The city clerk and city attorney have the guidelines. It will be exactly the same for ADA and handicap requests as done at the last meeting of the Lee School District. This was implemented by the school district attorney and the executive secretary which is equivalent to our City Clerk. It worked perfectly. I attended the June 9 school district meeting. I was granted my ADA request.
At the June 2025 Council meeting the mayor was in agreement to move citizens input time to the END of the meeting thus ending any meaningful citizens input for not only ADA and handicap residents but also the citizens.
It is an election year mayor. You can change your mind in 2026. Right?
In regard to Citizens input time, this was and will always be just and right for all of our citizens of Cape Coral. See you all at the meetings. God bless America.
