Voter’s regret
To the editor:
Michele and I supported Joe Kilraine for council two years ago. That mistake will haunt us for another two years.
Even after his behavior over the last 18 months, I was shocked to see how he conducted himself during the May 6 council meeting. His actions were at best disappointing and at worst a violation of civil liberties. Breaking decorum by telling the mayor to throw out a citizen for her passionate outburst due to the cost of her UEP expense was a complete overreaction and an abuse of power. Not to be outdone, he was the only dissenting vote to continue citizen’s input for the few remaining citizens to speak was out of line.
Joe’s smug, superiority and his “emperor without clothes” attitude is not what we voted for in 2024.
His voting record is also troubling. Joe supported taxes and assessments increases last year totaling more than $27 million. Maybe even more troubling was awarding the City Manager a perfect score on his yearly evaluation. Joe claims to be a disciple of GE’s Jack Welsh. Jack would never give a perfect score to anyone as there is always room for improvement. The City Manager has mismanaged many things: The Yacht Club, Jaycee Park (Bistro), Parks GO Bonds, Bimini East and the Flag…..I could go on and on.
When I am wrong, I admit it. So, when I saw Charlie Pease recently, I apologized for not casting my vote for him. To those I convinced to vote for Joe over Charlie, I am sorry. I got that wrong.
I hope that Joe reads this and remembers his campaign promises. He has just over two years to go and must recommit to reducing taxes, common sense spending and holding the city manager accountable for making the city more efficient. His theory of “go-along to get along” with the establishment is not serving the citizens of Cape Coral. Joe, if you need role models, follow Rachel Kaduk, Jennifer Nelson and Derrick Donnell. They seem to make their decisions based on the voice of the people.
