To the editor:

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Lee County Republican Executive Committee for the passage and implementation of the recent resolution supporting the inclusion of the “Baby Olivia” educational program in Florida public schools.

At a time when public education is often surrounded by confusion and controversy, this resolution is a thoughtful and measured effort to reaffirm the importance of scientifically accurate, age-appropriate instruction in human biology. It deserves a clear explanation so that the public understands what it does.

The resolution, adopted on Jan. 20, 2026, supports the use of the “Baby Olivia” video series within existing health and life science curricula for students in grades 6 through 12, subject to parental consent. It encourages schools to make available a visual, science-based educational resource that illustrates prenatal human development in a medically accurate and age-appropriate manner.

“Baby Olivia” presents the stages of prenatal development using modern imaging and animation to show organ formation, growth milestones, and in utero development. The resolution recognizes that such visual tools can enhance student understanding of anatomy, genetics, prenatal care, and human development, topics already integral to health and life science education. By improving biological literacy, the program helps students better grasp complex scientific concepts while encouraging critical thinking and respectful discussion.

Importantly, the resolution affirms that public education should be rooted in factual, medically accurate instruction, not ideology. It emphasizes that understanding prenatal development is a legitimate and essential component of comprehensive science education. The resolution also calls upon the Florida Legislature to support similar educational initiatives statewide and encourages the Lee County School Board to consider local implementation consistent with existing policies and parental rights.

I commend the Lee County Republican Executive Committee for advancing a resolution that is careful, transparent, and grounded in educational merit. Their leadership reflects a commitment to science-based instruction, parental involvement, and informed public discourse.
