Capital punishment is not the answer
To the editor:
Ronald Heath is in the Green Room at the Florida State Prison. More specifically, he is scheduled to become the first person executed in Florida this year, at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 10. Please observe a moment of silence at that time, for him and for his victim.
FYI, the Libertarian Party platform objects to capital punishment: “1.8 Death Penalty. We oppose the administration of the death penalty by the state.”
The Catechism of my church is equally emphatic: “In the light of the Gospel … (the death penalty) … is inadmissible because it is an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the person …”
We should be ashamed at what he did, and at what we are doing.
