To the editor:
My name is Robert Attig. My U.S. Navy career was cut short by a very serious injury. I am 90% disabled.
Upon calling Operation Open Arms and speaking directly with founder Capt John “GiddyUp” Bunch my dream of a boat rental came true even though my military status was no longer serving on Active Duty. I did not ask Capt. Bunch why he would go out of his way to help me. Upon going to the OOA Website, maybe it was for this reason. Capt. Bunch was quoted as saying “Great charities look for reasons to approve benefits not deny them.” How profound.
Everyone in Southwest Florida cared enough to help a total stranger from Indiana. Operation Open Arms and Salty Sam’s Marina treated me with dignity and respect. Thank you.
