Council ignoring public input on KC’s bid
To the editor:
The incumbent members of the Cape Coral City Council just don’t get it. They are defiantly thwarting the expressed wishes of their constituents by insisting that the contract for KC’s Riverstop at the Yacht Club Park goes out for bid. That is scheduled to happen within a week or two.
The patrons of the park have demonstrated overwhelmingly that we do not want to lose KC’s and that there is no mandate that requires an RFP to go out. The petition submitted to the council last month, in favor of renewing KC’s contract without sending it out for bids, was reportedly the second largest petition ever submitted to the city, second only to one dealing with the UEP. And this was during the slowest part of the year. If it were February the petition would be 4-5 times the size.
How many times do we have to reiterate all the reasons and public sentiment in favor of just renewing KC’s contract? It IS the perfect restaurant for the city’s only beach and park facility. What is it that these people do not understand? And why do they refuse to carry out the wishes of their constituents? It’s too bad the next election is so far off.
There is a council meeting coming up soon and there is perhaps one last opportunity to do what is right. Let’s remind the council once again what we want them to do. Negotiate a new contract now, put this issue behind you, and go on to the bigger issues facing the city.
