Don’t raise water rates

1 min read

To the editor:

The mayor and council would be well advised to not raise the water and sewer rates. Raising the rates would reflect an enormous disservice to the citizens of this city and surely end the political career of anyone voting “yes” for this. The convoluted thinking suggesting that the answer to every problem is to drain the taxpayer is a mind-set that needs to change immediately. Listen carefully, mayor and council, the citizens of Cape Coral cannot afford an increase in the cost of services. This means that we expect you, and city officials, to produce a budget that works within the frame work of what we presently have, with no exceptions. We don’t expect you to whine, and we certainly don’t expect disingenuous maneuvering. Your job is to figure it out…that’s what you’re there for and that’s what we expect.

Of course it’s difficult but everyone involved wanted the job, and since that’s the case, we expect you to do the job, forget about increases, or resign.

You’re playing with fire if you don’t dismiss this increase idea without hesitation.
