To the editor:

Well, John Shudlick’s views on Dec. 6 and 7, “Long live Republican right” and “Sarah Palin’s win” were interesting, but highly parochial. Naivetes always attract.

Polls repeatedly show that Sarah Palin attracts mostly the radical rightists, as she turns off the majority of both men and especially women.

So while Georgia these days seem to have a larger percentage of ultra conservatives, it’s not too likely that Palin’s presence played a huge influence in the re-election of Chamblis. Let’s remember that “off-year” elections usually fail to excite the voters, especially those factions who perceive that they have “no dog in the fight.” Underdogs often benefit from those conditions, as we see again from this week’s election in Louisiana (the Senator won and the Representative lost).

My memory tells me that the black vote for Obama was like 80 percent, not 98 percent.

And no, most of us do not want to vote for anti-choice, no government, no taxes and no interference in greed and roughshod (the tangential views). (The Second Amendment is a bi-partism issue – with support prevailing.)

We have yet to wonder who will save the Republican Party from the neocons and evangelicals that have hijacked it. (I see no one on the horizon.) And as long as all they have to offer is the above, they will be hard-pressed to muster more then 40 percent of the state and national electorate, now that two-thirds are pressing the other way.
