Each week through the General Election, The Breeze will ask the candidates for Cape Coral City Council an issue-related question. In the interest of fairness, each candidate is limited to the same amount of space, about 100 words, for their response.

Cape Coral City Council races are non-partisan races. Council members qualify in their respective districts but are elected at-large. This means all registered city voters may cast a ballot in each race regardless of where they live and the party to which they are affiliated, if any. This year’s General Election, on Nov. 3, features four Cape Coral City Council races: Mayor and the seats for District 1, 4 and 6.

Question of the Week: What final message do you want voters to take to the polls?

• David Newton

Cape Coral is more than where I live; it’s the home my wife and I chose, rebuilt, and love. After a lifetime of serving others as a veteran and law enforcement officer, I’ve learned that people matter most. I know what it means to work hard, sacrifice, and look out for your neighbors. I’m running because I believe our community deserves a voice that listens, cares, and puts people before politics. I stand for public safety, responsible spending, transparency, strong infrastructure, and keeping Cape Coral a place where families can build a future and be proud to call home.

Do your homework on selecting the best candidates that serves the needs of the city. I have no conflicts of interest. I have the program management skills and financial acumen to ensure that city leadership is accountable for costs and schedule, and to ensure the council is making decisions based on common sense and financial analysis. I have been the citizen’s watchdog for the past seven years of our tax dollars and projects. I want a voice on the council to provide a bigger impact for lowering our taxes while maintaining a safe and prosperous city. Thank you for voting!
