Election 2026 | Question of the Week 9, District 6
Each week through the General Election, The Breeze will ask the candidates for Cape Coral City Council an issue-related question. In the interest of fairness, each candidate is limited to the same amount of space, about 100 words, for their response.
Cape Coral City Council races are non-partisan races. Council members qualify in their respective districts but are elected at-large. This means all registered city voters may cast a ballot in each race regardless of where they live and the party to which they are affiliated, if any. This year’s General Election, on Nov. 3, features four Cape Coral City Council races: Mayor and the seats for District 1, 4 and 6.

Question of the Week: Where do you stand on the Bimini East Redevelopment Project as proposed?

I support the vision of revitalizing Bimini East and creating a vibrant destination in South Cape. This project has the potential to bring significant private investment, jobs, commercial tax base and new opportunities to our city.
However, this redevelopment must also protect taxpayers’ investment. Before approving a final agreement, I want clear answers about financial terms, infrastructure impacts, parking and public access, Four Freedoms Park, long-term obligations, and the return to taxpayers.
I want Bimini East to succeed, but success means both a great project and a great deal for Cape Coral taxpayers. Development should pay its fair share and provide clear long-term benefits.

I support redeveloping Bimini East, but not at any cost. The city has already made a substantial investment in this property, and leaving it vacant is not a solution. I would require clear construction timelines, performance benchmarks and clawback provisions so incentives are earned as the developer performs. Taxpayers should know our total financial commitment and exactly what we receive in return. Bimini East has the potential to transform the South Cape and strengthen our tax base. I want to finish what we started, while ensuring the final agreement protects Cape Coral taxpayers and delivers lasting value.
