Election 2026 | Question of the Week 9, District 1
Each week through the General Election, The Breeze will ask the candidates for Cape Coral City Council an issue-related question. In the interest of fairness, each candidate is limited to the same amount of space, about 100 words, for their response.
Cape Coral City Council races are non-partisan races. Council members qualify in their respective districts but are elected at-large. This means all registered city voters may cast a ballot in each race regardless of where they live and the party to which they are affiliated, if any. This year’s General Election, on Nov. 3, features four Cape Coral City Council races: Mayor and the seats for District 1, 4 and 6.

Question of the Week: Where do you stand on the Bimini East Redevelopment Project as proposed?

As proposed, I do not support the Bimini East Redevelopment Project, but I believe we can work with the developers and our residents to create a better plan that benefits everyone. We need thorough traffic studies to minimize congestion and protect our infrastructure. We must ensure our oldest park is not harmed, but preserved and improved. I also believe the city should negotiate a better deal so taxpayers are not losing money on the land the city purchased. I support bringing businesses, jobs, and revenue to Cape Coral, but never at the expense of our residents’ quality of life.

This project is very lopsided to the benefit of the developer. The city carries all the costs, and the developer has little or no risks until permits are approved and the economy dictates the construction. The developer is getting the property at 34 cents on the dollar plus Four Freedom’s Park. This needs to be sent back out to industry for a better deal. No hurry for this since permitting for the changes to the waterfront will take three years for approval. This was a big mistake by paying too much for this property and not getting it all purchased from the onset.
