Lee County Commission approves project to resurface and improve portions of the bicycle-pedestrian pathway along Veterans Parkway
The Lee Board of County Commissioners voted today to approve a project to make spot repairs along segments of the Veterans Parkway bicycle and pedestrian pathway, a recreational artery that borders portions of the Charlotte Harbor Buffer Preserve in Cape Coral.
The work will be completed in areas along Veterans Parkway from the intersection with Pine Island Road to east of Santa Barbara Boulevard. In total, more than a mile of the pathway will be improved.
Inspections identified sections of the pathway in need of repair. Tree roots and grass have intruded on some areas of the pathway, drop-offs have formed at the edge of the pavement and cracking and buckling is present in other areas. This project will mill and resurface the areas that need to be addressed, as well as add sod in some areas, to provide quality-of-life improvements for people who use the pathway.
The project authorization was made to a contract Ajax Paving Industries of Florida LLC, for about $250,000. Work is expected to begin by the end of September and be complete later this fall.
