Cape police officer arrested for assault, battery; placed on administrative leave
A Cape Coral Police Department officer has been arrested and placed on administrative leave after an incident that occurred while he was off-duty, according to department officials.
Officer Travis Harrison has been charged with simple assault with intent threat to do violence, as well as battery touch or strike
According to Cape Coral Police Department officials, on Aug. 30, Harrison was involved in a “disturbance” in Lee County, outside of Cape Coral.
CCPD officials stated in a social media post that Harrison has been placed on administrative leave while the department conducts a separate internal affairs investigation, which officials state is consistent with department protocol.
“The criminal investigation is being handled by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and the State Attorney’s Office,” CCPD officials stated in its social media post. “The Cape Coral Police Department’s internal affairs investigation is separate from the criminal investigation and will determine whether any department policies, procedures, or standards of conduct were violated. As with any criminal case, Harrison is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.”
Officials also stated, “Any findings of misconduct will be addressed promptly and appropriately.”
The post also included a statement from CCPD Chief Anthony Sizemore.
“The badge carries with it a responsibility to meet a high standard of conduct, both on and off duty,” Sizemore stated. “When allegations arise involving one of our employees, we have a responsibility to address them appropriately, thoroughly, and transparently. The trust our community places in this department is something we take very seriously, and we are committed to maintaining that trust through accountability while upholding the standards expected of everyone who wears this badge.”
As of Monday afternoon, Harrison was still in custody at Lee County Jail, and is being held on a $5,000 bond.
