City sets Open House on Chiquita Corridor Project
The city of Cape Coral will hold an open house on its Chiquita Corridor Project to give residents an opportunity hear information about the proposed layout as well as to ask questions and share feedback.
“The Chiquita Corridor Project is designed to improve safety and traffic flow along Chiquita Boulevard between Cape Coral Parkway and Veterans Parkway,” principal engineer Wendy Williams said. “Proposed improvements include reducing traffic backups, expanding turn-lane capacity, and modifying key intersections and connecting side streets. Median areas may also be adjusted to accommodate additional turn lanes and improve vehicle movement through the corridor.”
The open house is scheduled from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, at the Cape Coral Public Works Operations Center, 815 Nicholas Pkwy E.
“The city encourages residents and community members to attend, learn more about the proposed improvements, and share their feedback on the future of the Chiquita Corridor. Attendees will be able to review the proposed layout for Chiquita Boulevard between Cape Coral Parkway and Veterans Parkway, ask questions, and provide input directly to the project team,” Williams said.
The project is planned for two phases with the first phase being Cape Coral Parkway to Southwest 34th Street, and the second phase is Southwest 34th Street to Veterans Parkway.
“Construction schedules have not yet been established for either phase,” Williams said. “Construction will move forward as funding becomes available.”
She said the improvements are expected to provide meaningful benefits for those traveling along this section of Chiquita Bouelvard.
“The project is intended to reduce traffic backups, improve operational efficiency, and create a safer corridor for all roadway users,” Williams said.
