The fatal crash happened on July 19, 2024, on a portion of Pine Island Road in Cape Coral.

Evidence introduced at trial was video from a camera on Nicholas Parkway and Pine Island Road which showed two cars traveling at a high speed, racing each other. Chase Magruder, 23, also of Cape Coral, was the driver of the second car. In the video, a short distance away, Zadorozhna’s car collided with the victim’s vehicle after being hit by Magruder’s car.

Magruder hit Zadorozhna’s car when she drove into his lane.

Magruder pled straight to the court on his charge of vehicular homicide. It was not a plea agreement but rather his right to enter a plea straight to the judge for sentencing.

Magruder was sentenced on Aug. 19.

Zadorozhna will be sentenced on Sept. 28.
