‘Rally of Hope’ Aug. 29 at Mount Olive African Methodist Episcopal Church
Floridians for Democracy, in partnership with Mount Olive African Methodist Episcopal Church, will host the “Rally of Hope” on Saturday, Aug 29, from 3-5 p.m. at the Mount Olive AME Church, and streamed virtually.
Kellie Burns, former news anchor, will serve as emcee and participants will hear from local and regional community leaders.
The event purposefully lands one day after the 63rd anniversary of the March on Washington, partially led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., where more than 250,000 people gathered in the nation’s capital to march for jobs and freedom. The “Rally of Hope” serves as a civic gathering, to unite people from all races, faiths, generations and political traditions.
The event’s goal is to provide attendees with practical steps to defend democratic participation, encourage voter commitment and inspire action within the community.
“The ‘Rally of Hope’ is not a protest, but a revival of hope, solidarity and civic responsibility for anyone who believes in democracy,” said Jim Nathan, founder of FFD. “This gathering serves as a continuation of the work our civic leaders started 63 years ago, because their work is not finished. Protecting democracy never ends.”
Registration is now open at eventzilla.net/e/rally-of-hope for in-person and virtual attendance.
