Cape woman charged in string of retail thefts

An 18-year-old Cape Coral woman was arrested after police say she made a string of retail thefts at a local Target. 

Arabella Calisto has been charged with larceny retail theft over $750 in connection to three thefts at Target along Northeast Pine Island Road. 

According to Cape Coral Police Department officials, the department’s Property Crimes Bureau identified a pattern of coordinated retail thefts occurring over the past several weeks. Police state loss prevention personnel at Target reported incidents on July 24 and Aug. 4 where a female was seen concealing hundreds of dollars in children’s toys and merchandise. 

Police state on Aug. 7, “proactive police work led to an immediate breakthrough.”

According to a CCPD release, “CCPD Property Crimes Sergeant was at the store conducting a follow-up investigation related to the suspect’s previous incidents when he was alerted that the female suspect had returned to the store and was actively concealing merchandise.”

Police state that officers intercepted Calisto at the point of sale, and confirmed her identity as the suspect involved in the previous thefts. 

Police state the total value of the merchandise stolen across the three incidents was $1,305.73. 

Calisto was released from Lee County Jail on a $2,500 bond.
