Lee Commissioners approve the purchase of four parcels for Conservation 20/20
Three parcels are on Pine Island and the fourth is east of Interstate 75 and south of Palm Beach Boulevard
The Lee Board of County Commissioners continued its support of the Conservation 20/20 program today with votes to approve the purchase of four parcels, including three parcels on Pine Island and an infill parcel bordered by the Orange River Preserve east of Interstate 75 on Palm Beach Boulevard.
In addition, the board approved advancing two additional parcels to the Tier 1 priority list for potential acquisition.
The board voted to approve:
• A purchase agreement for two contiguous Conservation 20/20 parcels, one of 27.9 acres and one of 28.13 acres, at 9901 Stringfellow Road, St. James City.
The purchase prices are about $1.4 million and $285,000, respectively. Both are Tier I parcels. The Conservation Land Acquisition and Stewardship Advisory Committee unanimously recommended approval of these purchase agreements.
• A purchase agreement for a parcel of about 10 acres near the intersection of Stringfellow Road and Monaco Lake Drive on Pine Island for $400,000. CLASAC unanimously recommended approving this purchase agreement for the Tier 1 parcel. The property is adjacent to Lee County’s Pine Island Flatwoods Preserve.
• A purchase agreement for about 3.5 acres at 10301 Palm Beach Boulevard east of Fort Myers for $495,000. CLASAC recommended approving the purchase agreement for this Tier 1 parcel by unanimous vote. The property is an infill parcel and will be incorporated into the county’s Orange River Preserve.
In addition to the purchase agreements, the board voted to approve CLASAC recommendations to place two properties in the Tier I classification, a 2-acre parcel within Charlotte Harbor Buffer Preserve, where acquisition would eliminate ongoing access and management challenges; and, 30-acre parcel within the Corkscrew Regional Ecosystem Watershed (CREW).
Any purchase agreement for acquisition will be returned to the Board for future consideration.
There are currently 31,773 acres within the Conservation 20/20 Land Acquisition Program.
