Traffic stop results in drug trafficking charge
CCPD K9 alerts to drugs in vehicle; police say 97.8 grams of methamphetamine confiscated
A routine traffic stop resulted in a drug trafficking charge against the driver after a police dog alerted to possible narcotics in the car.
Tara Michele Flore, 29, of Cape Coral, was charged with trafficking in methamphetamine over 14 grams after K9 Venom alerted his handler following a “sniff around” the vehicle.
According to the Cape Coral Police Department, on July 21, at approximately 1:39 a.m., a CCPD officer stopped the vehicle in the 3400 block of Del Prado Boulevard South after observing multiple traffic infractions.
During the stop, a K9 Officer and his partner, K9 Venom, arrived to assist.
“A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a backpack containing four separate clear plastic baggies filled with a crystal-like substance,” the CCPD said in a release. “A preliminary test confirmed the substance to be methamphetamine, with a total weight of 97.8 grams — a substantial amount well above trafficking thresholds.”
Flore, who police say was the sole owner of the vehicle, “was arrested after evidence and statements connected her to the illegal contents.”
Flore was taken to the Lee County Jail where she remained in custody as of Wednesday afternoon.
